The Wanted: 'It's hard to stay at No.1'

The Wanted have discussed their recent chart positions, admitting that it is difficult to keep landing at No.1.

The boyband achieved their first UK No.1 in 2010 with their debut single 'All Time Low', whilst they also reached top spot with 2011's 'Glad You Came'.

However, their latest record 'Word of Mouth' hit No.9 - their worst performing album to date.

Speaking to BBC Newsbeat, Tom Parker defended their chart efforts and stated that it is tough to maintain constant number ones. He said:

"I think for any band, I think it's very difficult to always sustain a certain level. I think when we came in with a number one single ['All Time Low'], you set a precedent then to stay at number one."

The singer added: "And when you don't stay at number one, the critics are like 'Well, that's the fall of The Wanted'. Mmmm, it's not really. It's just very difficult to stay there. Do you know what I mean, and it is."

The Wanted's self-titled debut album meanwhile reached No.4 in the UK whilst their 2011 follow-up 'Battleground' premiered at No.5.

Despite their latest effort dropping down the chart, the group recently revealed that they might release two records in 2014.
