Steps singer Ian Watkins has complained of receiving online hate in the wake of his Lostprophets namesake admitting child sex offences.

As previously reported, 36-year-old Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins pleaded guilty on Tuesday (November 26) to a string of sex offences - two of which were attempting to rape a baby.

The news predictably caused a number of people to express their disgust, but it seems the Steps singer of the same name (pictured left) has been incorrectly on the receiving end of online hate.

The 37-year-old pop man said he would be taking time away from Twitter as a result, saying:

"Decided to have a break from twitter... Not sure when I'll be back.. Big Hugs to you all x H x."

Watkins' team meanwhile said on Facebook: "Just to clear out some of the abuse there has been the past few hours...This is the 'Official Ian H Watkins' website. Better known as H from Steps. H is in NO WAY related with the news about the singer from Lostprophets! Please don't post any comments about the news here because they will be deleted. Thank you!"

Ian Watkins from Lostprophets meanwhile will be setenced alongside two female co-defendants on December 18.
