One Direction's 'Midnight Memories' debuts at No. 1 on UK album chart

Following the news that One Direction’s ‘Midnight Memories’ is the UK’s fastest selling-album of 2013, it comes as no surprise that the British boy band’s third LP has also debuted at the top of this week’s album chart.

‘Midnight Memories’ has sold more than 237,000 copies during the last seven days. One Direction have now stolen the title of fastest-selling album of the year from Daft Punk who had previously held the record with ‘Random Access Memories’ shifting 165,000 units in its first week on sale in May.

One Direction’s latest album gives the five-piece – made up by Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson – their second chart-topping LP as ‘Take Me Home’ also hit No. 1 in 2012, whilst their 2011 debut ‘Up All Night’ reached No. 2.

Just behind the X Factor graduates in this week’s chart is current talent show judge Gary Barlow with his solo album ‘Since I Saw You Last’ at No. 2.

Last week’s number one from Robbie Williams with ‘Swings Both Ways’ has now dropped to No. 3.

Racing up the chart from No. 96 to No. 4 is Olly Murs with a special edition release of ‘Right Place Right Time’.

This week’s top five is completed by ‘The Marshall Mathers LP 2’ from Eminem, which now drops three places to No. 5.

New entries to this week’s chart come from Boyzone with ‘BZ20’ at No. 6, Susan Boyle’s ‘Home For Christmas’ at No. 9, Dido’s ‘Greatest Hits’ at No. 27 and a festive collection from Mary J. Blige at No. 28 with ‘A Mary Christmas’.
