One Direction star Niall Horan has dismissed speculation that he went on a date with Katy Perry.

The two singers were pictured leaving a restaurant separately in New York on Wednesday (December 4) and eager minds quickly put two and two together.

They latched onto the fact that Horan recently jokingly asked Perry to marry him and some sections of the media claimed that they were on a date.

However, Horan told Ryan Seacrest that they were both in the restaurant by coincidence. He said:

"I was in there and I think she was doing an interview or something and she was there. I was leaving and she left and we didn't have dinner or anything together. I just said hello to her."

One Direction meanwhile are currently preparing for their performance on Saturday Night Live this weekend.
