Lostprophets' Ian Watkins jailed for 35 years over child sex offences

Ian Watkins has today (December 18) been jailed for a total of 35 years after admitting to a number of child sex offences.

The former Lostprophets singer recently pleaded guilty to a string of charges, including attempting to rape a baby.

He has been given an initial sentence of 29 years, with an extended licence of six years. He will need to serve two thirds of his full sentence before being considered for parole.

A number of the charges involved two female co-defendants, with one of them the mother of the baby which was subjected to the attempted rape.

'Mother A' has been sentenced to 14 years in jail whilst 'Mother B' has been given a 17-year jail sentence.

Cardiff Crown Court meanwhile heard today that Watkins made a phone call to a friend from prison just days after pleading guilty suggesting that he would release a statement saying that his offences were "megalolz".

The court also heard that the singer injected one of the co-defendants with heroin in order to "facilitate his sexual gratification".

The 36-year-old singer pleaded guilty to 13 child sex offences in total in November after initially denying all involvement in the charges.

As previously reported, South Wales Police have confirmed that they are currently investigating whether Watkins committed child sex offences in the US and Holland.
