The director of Justin Bieber's new film reckons the singer is a "troublemaker" at heart.

The singer is releasing his latest movie Believe on Christmas Day and a day later in the UK, with Jon Chu on directing duties.

Speaking to E! at the film's launch, the director praised Bieber's character, but suggested that he is a cheeky troublemaker.

Chu said: "I think if [moviegoers] just see Justin the way I see Justin, they'll accept him - warts and all - and see that he's not as bad as the press makes him out to be sometimes, and he's not as innocent as he tries to paint himself sometimes. He's a troublemaker. It's what he is and he's charming as hell, but that's who he is and that's what makes him Justin Bieber."

Bieber meanwhile is due to release his latest album 'Journals' on Monday (December 23) as he caps off his Music Mondays campaign.
