Def Leppard "flattered" by One Direction plagiarism claims

Def Leppard have denied that they will sue One Direction over allegations of plagiarism.

A host of people have made comparisons between the chorus of the boyband's 'Midnight Memories' and the rockers' 1987 classic 'Pour Some Sugar On Me'.

However, Def Leppard concede that the two tracks are just similar in structure, confirming that rumours of legal action are unfounded.

They added that they are "flattered" that the classic rock sound might be coming "cool". Guitarist Vivian Campbell told Billboard:

"The chords are one-four-five. Those are the blues. You don’t get more basic than that. I think what’s more reminiscent of the Leppard thing is the production, the sound, the vocals, the reverb and the way it’s asssembled."

He added: "That is very flattering that all of a sudden these kids think it’s a cool sound. I think a lot of people of their generation aren’t going to connect their music to ours."

It's not the first time meanwhile that One Direction have been embroiled in plagiarism discussion. Their recent single 'Best Song Ever' was likened to The Who's 'Baba O'Riley' whilst some of their other tracks - such as 'What Makes You Beautiful' - have also faced copying claims.
