Madonna to introduce Pussy Riot at Amnesty International gig

Madonna will introduce members of Pussy Riot at an upcoming human rights benefit concert.

The singer will pay tribute to the Russian punks' Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Maria Alyokhina, who were jailed until recently for performing a protest song in a Moscow church, at an Amnesty International show in New York on February 5.

The duo will then "address attendees", with the likes of Tegan and Sara and The Flaming Lips also scheduled to perform.

Madonna commented: "I am honoured to introduce my fellow freedom fighters Masha and Nadya from Pussy Riot. I have admired their courage and have long supported their commitment and the sacrifices they have made in the name of freedom of expression and human rights."

The Queen of Pop was a vocal supporter of Pussy Riot whilst they were in prison and she paid tribute to them during a Moscow show in 2012.
