Madonna to be sued by ex-charity workers

Madonna, who in 2009 began working on building a school for girls in Malawi that was never completed, is now being sued by eight of her charity workers for unfair dismissal. 

The Guardian newspaper reports that construction of the £9.4m project never actually began and a total of eight workers were fired from the job, which in turn has caused them to seek legal action against the 'Give It 2 Me' pop icon. 

A statement made by Madonna over the sacking of several of her staff reads:

"There is nothing unfair about the termination of the applicants' employment since termination of employment was necessitated by genuine economic reasons."

She has now been forced to employ a legal defense against their claims and non-payment of benefits. Watch Madonna talk about the now abandoned project here:
