Madonna criticises MIA's Super Bowl gesture

Madonna has been moved to criticise MIA's middle finger gesture at the weekend (February 5).

As previously reported, MIA appeared to flip her middle finger towards the camera during her performance with Madonna, with millions watching the event.

Speaking to 'On Air with Ryan Seacrest', Madonna said that she "wasn't happy" when she heard about the gesture, calling it an "irrelevant" thing to do. She said:

"I was really surprised. I didn't know anything about it. I wasn't happy about it. I understand it's punk rock and everything, but to me there was such a feeling of love and good energy, and positivity it seemed negative. It's such a teenager…irrelevant thing to do…there was such a feeling of love and unity there what was the point? It was just out of place."

Madonna was also moved to deny suggestion that Britney Spears had collaborated with the Queen of Pop on her new track 'Girls Gone Wild'. She said:

"No, it's just little ol' me."
