Madonna hits back at Malawi officials after being criticised for behaviour during trip

The Queen of Pop was recently slammed by officials in Malawi for her supposed diva-like behaviour while visiting the area, but she has now released a statement criticising the reports.

She referred to comments made by Malawi's President Banda as "lies" and explained that everything she was accused of is completely untrue. Madonna says: "I'm saddened that Malawi's President Joyce [Banda] has chosen to release lies about what we've accomplished, my intentions, how I personally conducted myself while visiting Malawi and other untruths. I have no intentions of being distracted by these ridiculous allegations."

The remarks she references were released by Banda yesterday (April 10) and a highlight from the 11-point document explains:

"Among the many things that Madonna needs to learn as a matter of urgency is the decency of telling the truth. For her to tell the whole world that she is building schools in Malawi when she has actually only contributed to the construction of classrooms is not compatible with manners of someone who thinks she deserves to be revered with state grandeur."

The 'Like A Prayer' icon visited Malawi earlier this month to "view the new schools" built by her Raising Malawi foundation and she added that despite what Banda told the media, "I did not ever ask or demand special treatment at the airport or elsewhere during my visit".
