Shakespear's Sister Star Returns With New AlbumGray MatterzMarcella Detroit, AKA Marcy Levy is an artist, musician, singer and songwriter. Her new album called Gray Matterz is released in the UK this Spring. Already released in the US, the album is already piquing the interest of radio stations as well some major tastemakers in the US. A breathtaking collection of ten tracks showing the range of Marcella’s musical influence, song writing and smooth, hypnotic vocal talents. The single from the album is entitled Drag Queen and is released in the UK this month. She started out in music back in Detroit, her hometown, and got her first big break singing with Bob Seger. Next, it was on to singing and touring with Leon Russell and following that, touring, recording and writing with Eric Clapton. She toured with Eric twice for a total of 5 years, worldwide, including appearing with him at the Live Aid concert in 1985 and cowrote one of his biggest hits, "Lay Down Sally" as well as the critically acclaimed album track, "The Core". In the early 90's, she was one half of the UK band, Shakespear's Sister. She co-wrote, and was vocally featured on, their song "Stay" which was number One for eight weeks in the UK charts, still holding the record for the longest running number one for a female band in the UK. It also went Gold in the US, selling over 500k copies. Since then, she has done a few solo albums: "Jewel" on London Records in 1994; "Feeler" on AAA Records/Total/BMG in 1996; "Dancing Madly Sideways" in 1999 on her own indie label [on iTunes]. She got back to her blues roots for new inspiration and did an indie Blues cd in 2005 called, "The Upside of Being Down". In 2010, she appeared on a UK TV show called, "From Pop Star To Opera Star" where she was coached by world famous vocal coaches to learn to sing opera, competing against 7 other "pop stars" including Jimmy Osmond and many others, championing her way to the semi finals.
