DEXY’S founder member Pete Williams comes to Musicport in October

Musicport Festival, held this October in the beautiful seaside town of Whitby, North Yorkshire, are delighted to have grace their North Sea stage on Saturday 21st October, Pete Williams - the founder member of Dexys Midnight Runners.

As a Black Country teenager in the late 1970s, bassist Williams was invited by an old school friend to join an unnamed “new wave soul group” little imagining that the band would become Dexys Midnight Runners. Before he knew it, Pete was part of an outfit that had supported The Specials on their first 2 Tone tour, seen their debut album Searching For the Young Soul Rebels rightly hailed as an all-time classic, and scored a No 1 hit single with Geno.

Further success followed, with pivotal 1980s bands The Bureau and These Tender Virtues. And, in 2003, Pete rejoined the reformed Dexys, taking centre stage with Kevin Rowland for a UK tour, and recording sessions that eventually became the 2012 comeback album One Day I’m Going To Soar.

The resulting live show – with Pete once again at the forefront alongside Kevin – received rave reviews for both its musicianship and its theatricality. Since then, Pete has released two solo albums: 2012 effort See, with Richard Hawley on guitar and 2015 follow-up Roughnecks and Roustabouts.

“Pete Williams has for many years been making music of real depth and weight. It deserves to
be recognised. He sings from deep down in his soul and produces something that is
unmistakably the truth. This is the real thing”. - KEVIN ROWLAND

Musicport Festival, held in one indoor venue overlooking the North Sea with 6 stages (and a comedy bus), is widely regarded as a great way to end the festival season and coincides with the October half term for many. With indoor camping as an option, a festival bazaar in the main hall and international food vans it has the outdoor festival vibe but protected from the elements and with lots of activities to participate in as well as acts to see.

Having started back in 2000 with a one-off festival for the Millennium, that one-off has led to 17 more … so 2017 is our 18th birthday – we’re coming of age!

Full weekend and Day tickets are all available.
