Mariah Carey has announced that she is delaying the release of her next album.

The veteran singer was due to release her new record 'The Art of Letting Go' on July 23 but she has now decided to postpone it.

Carey revealed on Twitter that she wants to spend more time on developing her tracks so that moments on inspiration aren't left out. She said:

"While making this album, I got so immersed in the creative process that I just don't feel I would be doing it justice to release it on 7/23."

The singer added: "I'd rather not exclude meaningful songs. I want to give you this album as it's meant to be heard. When I'm ready, you'll be the first 2 know!"

Carey has already released one single from the album - the Miguel collaboration '#Beautiful'.

Her new album will mark the follow-up to her previous full solo release, 'The Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel'.
