Mark Ronson on Lady Gaga's 'Joanne': 'We never set out to make an honest album'

Producer and hitmaker Mark Ronson has revealed that when he started working with Lady Gaga on her new record Joanne, they never sat down and decided to make an "honest album"

Chatting to Billboard Online about the project, which has enjoyed great success since its release in late October, Ronson explained that emotional transparency was important but it wasn't something they had discussed prior to the recording process:

"[I] didn't really know what she wanted to do. I was like, 'F**k, I really love this.' So we started following that direction - it was never contrived like, 'We're going to make this honest album.' That's what kept coming out. When Bloodpop (producer) came in, it got a lot better. He took what we were doing, which was maybe a little, not retro, but very live-music-recorded, and started to chop the s**t out of it."
