THE CIVIL WARS confirm MATTHEW AND THE ATLAS as special guests for Academy date

Matthew and the Atlas have been confirmed as special guests to the Grammy nominated Civil Wars at The Academy on March 14th. Tickets priced €17.50 including booking fee are on sale now from Ticketmaster outlets and online at www.ticketmaster.ie.

Matthew and the Atlas is London based Matthew Hegarty. Hegarty filters his textured and dreamy take on Americana through a distinctly English folk sensibility, and – with his bruised and raw vocal to the fore – tells stories that sound like they’ve been handed down through the ages.

Having played and recorded with a full 5 piece band since early 2010 – and in that time releasing two acclaimed EPs on Communion Records, touring the US twice and steadily building a growing fan-base in the UK and beyond – Hegarty is stripping these songs back to their beautiful basics in 2012 and touring with a stripped back set up to match.

The Civil Wars have been enjoying huge success lately with two Grammy nominations in the categories of Best Country/Duo Group Performance and Best Folk Album for their debut record Barton Hollow. The duo are comprised of California-to-Nashville transplant Joy Williams and her Alabaman partner, John Paul White travel without a backup band, and on their first full-length album, Barton Hollow, the bare-bones live arrangements that fans hear on the road are fleshed out with just the barest of acoustic accoutrements. Each song is an intimate conversation, and no third wheels or dinner-party chatter are going to interrupt that gorgeous, haunting hush.

Tickets for The Civil Wars with special guests are on sale now priced €17.50 including booking fee.
