M.I.A settles £10m Superbowl lawsuit.

American football’s governing body the NFL has settled its lawsuit with M.I.A. after demanding $16.5 million (£10m) for her performance during the 2012 Superbowl.

Joining Madonna on stage for a version of 'Give Me All Your Luvin'' with Nicki Minaj, M.I.A. caused outrage for raising her middle-finger at the end of their performance.

The NFL filed its lawsuit in September 2013, 19 months after the performance, when they were demanding $1.5 million (£910,000) and a public apology.

They claimed that M.I.A. intentionally gave the finger as a publicity stunt. By March 2014, the organisation was seeking $16.5 million (£10m).

Hollywood Reporter stated that M.I.A.’s attorney Howard King confirmed the settlement. Although no more details have been revealed.

M.I.A. issued a video statement when the lawsuit was first filed saying it was “a massive waste of time and money”.

Shortly after the Superbowl itself, Madonna said she “wasn’t happy” about M.I.A.’s display, telling radio presenter Ryan Seacrest: “It’s such a teenager, irrelevant thing to do. There was such a feeling of love and unity there, what was the point? It was out of place.”
