M.I.A opens up about new album 'Matangi'

'Bad Girls' songstress M.I.A spoke at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City last night (November 4) and revealed some details about her forthcoming new album.

She explained that she decided to name the record 'Matangi' partly after her own birth name, Mathangi, and also after "searching for parrots on Google and I found Matangi, who is [a Hindu wisdom goddess] parrot green."

Spin magazine reported that she didn't refer specifically to any particular songs that feature on the tracklisting, but explained that the body of work is representative of "spirituality on the Internet as it happens" and showed the audience a 'mood board' that included images of two green parrots.

M.I.A. added that it will no longer be released in December as originally planned and that she is about to head to India to complete it:

"It's not 'I want to be trendy'. I just want to make music that makes sense."
