Miley Cyrus on gender: 'I don't relate to what people say defines a girl'

Songstress Miley Cyrus has revealed that she doesn't believe in typical gender roles because she doesn't really relate to the constraints.

Speaking to Out magazine, the superstar confessed that she never really felt as though she fit into a 'traditional' gender role while she was growing up and doesn't believe that gender truly has such defined lines:

"I didn't want to be a boy. I kind of wanted to be nothing. I don't relate to what people would say defines a girl or a boy, and I think that's what I had to understand: Being a girl isn't what I hate, it's the box that I get put into."

Cyrus, meanwhile, has just launched her Happy Hippies foundation, which focuses on homelessness, LGBT rights and other "vulnerable" people, and told the Associated Press that she wants to use her fame to do good: "The position I'm in, I feel like I've got a lot of power, but so many kids don't feel that way. They're under their parents' rule."

"When you have all eyes on you, what are you saying? And that's what I had to ask myself a lot. It's like, I know you're going to look at me more if my (breasts) are out, so look at me. And then I'm going to tell you about my foundation for an hour and totally hustle you.”
