Jada Pinkett Smith has offered marriage advice to Miley Cyrus after the former Disney teen idol announced her engagement to actor Liam Hemsworth earlier this week.

The Scream 2 actress, who tied the knot with Will Smith back in 1997, told the US edition of OK! magazine that the Hannah Montana star should be prepared for a challenging experience:

“I got with Will when I was 23... so when I think about Miley and I'm like she's engaged at 19? It's a journey! It's a beautiful journey, but it's a journey. Lots of challenges. [Will and I] are nothing like we were when we first met. We're nothing like that!”

The 40-year-old, who will this year celebrate her 15th wedding anniversary with the Men In Black superstar, then advised the couple to place just as much importance on their friendship as anything else:

“I would say learn how to be friends because, especially when you're starting that young, there's lots of change coming. Lots of change. Lots of transition, you know?

“Forever is a long time. And when you're starting forever at 19-years-old, it's a long time!”
