Billy Ray Cyrus and his wife Tish, parents of former Disney starlet Miley Cyrus, have filed for divorce after an impressive 19 years of marriage. 

The couple, who have 5 children together, went public with the shocking news today (June 14) and while it comes as a surprise they did split back in 2010 although they managed to reconcile their differences.

Billy Ray issued a statement on his and Tish's decision, which explained that it's a very personal matter and they would like their privacy to be respected by the press: 

"This is a personal matter and we are doing what is in the best interest of our family. We ask that you respect our privacy at this time."

Despite asking for privacy, Miley showed signs of tension between herself and her father yesterday (June 13) after tweeting a public message to him that read: "@billyraycyrus since your text and email obviously aren't working would you like to talk like this?"

Miley, meanwhile, is currently working on her brand new forthcoming album and recently shared the cut's lead single. The new record will be the follow up to her 2010 offering, 'Can't Be Tamed'.
