Miley Cyrus turned heads at this year's MTV EMAs by appearing to smoke a joint on stage.

The singer seemingly lit up last night (November 10) at the Amsterdam ceremony whilst collecting the Best Video award for her clip 'Wrecking Ball'.

In an apparent homage to Holland's traditionally relaxed laws on smoking marijuana, Cyrus said on stage:

"I couldn't fit this award in my purse but I did find this."

She then used a lighter to ignite what looked to be a joint, with the move condemned by many on social networking websites.

The US star also picked up the Best United States Act award at the event, which saw her perform alongside a small person.

Cyrus's smoking antics ensures that she has hit the headlines once again for her conduct at an MTV awards ceremony, with the singer's racy dancing at August's VMA widely talked about.

Other winners at the EMAs last night meanwhile included One Direction and US rapper Eminem, who picked up the Global Icon prize.
