Miley Cyrus EMA smoking to be investigated

Miley Cyrus's smoking at this year's MTV EMAs will be investigated by Dutch authorities.

The singer hit the headlines at the Amsterdam event on Sunday (November 10) by appearing to light up a marijuana joint on stage whilst collecting her Best Video award.

It was an apparent homage to Holland's traditionally relaxed laws on smoking the drug - but it seems the puffing of smoke inside the Ziggo Dome venue will be investigated.

The National Food and Consumer Authority's Tjitte Mastenbroek told the AFP:

"We received complaints about smoking which was also seen on television. We have to investigate. We will shortly be meeting the Ziggo Dome's management to check what exactly happened there. There is a smoking ban in public places in the Netherlands. Employees have the right to a smoke-free environment and this includes camera and sound personnel. After meeting the Ziggo Dome's management we will decide whether possible steps will be taken."

Cyrus's smoking was subsequently edited out of MTV's US broadcast of the event.

As previously reported, the 'We Can't Stop' lady took to BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge today (November 12) to cover Lana Del Rey's 'Summertime Sadness'.
