Muse Snag ‘Best Riff of the Decade’

Bellamy and his boys found themselves awarded with a prestigious moniker after listeners voted their 2001 track 'Plug In Baby' the best guitar riff of the past decade.

The poll, for Total Guitar magazine, also gave Muse the No five spot with ‘Knights Of Cydonia’. Readers were asked to pick the ultimate guitar riff of the past in years in the latest ‘Monster Riff’ edition of the mag.

Experts hailed the famous riff – which beat out competitors from the likes of Green Day, Kasabian and Red Hot Chili Peppers – as being very difficult to play, but deceptively so.

Total Guitar editor Stephen Lawson told The Mirror: “I think Muse won because Matt Bellamy is a guitar hero for the 21st century.

"He's genuinely innovative, a real creative type who comes up with unique guitar parts. I'm sure it helps that his riffs are catchy too," he said.

A similar poll last year awarded the all-time greatest riff title to Jimi Hendrix for his 1968 track Voodoo Child.
