Ne-Yo slams Auto-Tune singers

R’n’B smoothie Ne-Yo has called out certain singers for misusing Auto-Tune to make their voices sound robotic.

He explains how the audio processor was intended to be used: “You don’t want to blow your throat trying to do the same note a thousand times, so you sing it a few good times and you let the Auto-Tune catch whatever notes fall out.”

However, he is not impressed by vocalists who mess around with the software.

“If you’re using it for what it’s meant for, cool, fine and good,” he says. “I feel like the best singers do. Not, ‘I can’t sing at all so let’s turn Auto-Tune all the way up so I sound like Willie the Robot.’ That’s whack!”

Ne-Yo is currently working on his fifth studio album, which is expected to be released in late 2011.
