Nicki Minaj apologises for Malcolm X gun photo

Nicki Minaj has apologised for uploading a promotional image for her new track 'Lookin Ass N*gga' that sees Malcolm X holding a gun.

The former American Idol judge recently unveiled the song recently and its video.

However, she uploaded what looked like cover artwork of human rights activist Malcolm holding a gun.

A petition was soon launched by 2008 Green Party VP candidate Rosa Clemente to ask for the photo to be removed.

Minaj later responded on Instagram, saying: "What seems to be the issue now? Do you have a problem with me referring to the people Malcolm X was ready to pull his gun out on as Lookin Ass N***az?

"Well, I apologise. That was never the official artwork nor is this an official single. This is a conversation. Not a single. I am in the video shooting at Lookin Ass N***az and there happened to be an iconic photo of Malcolm X ready to do the same thing for what he believed in!!!!"

The image, however, is still available to be viewed on Minaj's website.
