Nicki Minaj opens up about her past suicide thoughts

Nicki Minaj has said that before she had success in the music industry, she went through a dark period.

In November's issue of Cosmopolitan, the star, who has just featured on Willow Smith's new song, says that she considered suicide at one point:

"I kept having doors slammed on my face. I felt like nothing was working. I had moved out on my own, and here I was thinking I'd have to go home. It was one dead end after another. At one point, I was, like, 'What would happen if I just didn't wake up?' That's how I felt. Like maybe I should just take my life?"

The eccentric rapper and singer, who was signed by Lil Wayne's label, Young Money Entertainment, in 2009, has since worked with Willow Smith, Rihanna and Britney Spears.

The 'Super Bass' singer is well-known for her colourful fashion streak, but unlike Lady Gaga, Minaj admits to breaking character for comfort:

"I think Gaga is freakin' dope for that...But I can't be bothered. Give me my sweats. I like transforming from completely raggedy to 'Ahhh, I'm ready.' That transformation gives me a high."
