Nicki Minaj names first VMA win as one of her best moments

Nicki Minaj has named her first MTV Video Music Award as one of the best moments of her career.

The 29-year-old, who last year was awarded the Best Hip-Hop video for 'Super Bass' told MTV that she never expected to win on the night:

"I remember when I won for 'Super Bass. It had gotten to the point where I never won anything, so I would just go to awards shows just to wear a cute outfit.

“So when they called my name, I was like, 'Is this a joke? What? Is this really happening?' That was like, a very, very memorable moment. That was one of the best moments in my career, to just hear my name and truly be surprised."

The ‘Starships’ singer, who has received three nominations at the 2012 awards, also added that she’s still not banking on adding to her collection at Thursday’s ceremony.

"I don't plan speeches. I'm just happy to be nominated, and if I win, I win."
