Nicki Minaj on joining 'American Idol': 'Everyone is going to hate me'

Rap superstar Nicki Minaj has revealed that her initial thoughts about joining 'American Idol' as a panelist were far from positive.

The 'Starships' hitmaker may be owning the role as a judge on the show now, but during a press conference this week she explained that she thought people probably wouldn't take well to her:

"I felt like, 'Okay. I know everybody's just going to hate me. Oh well."

Minaj continued, admitting that she finds it strange when people don't seem to understand her or how she talks to contestants: "I didn't realize that maybe I am a bit strange. The way people react to what I say to the contestants, it's like, that's really how I act. But people think it's kind of strange."

"Like when I asked Kree Harrison to marry me… I guess looking back at it now, maybe no 'Idol' judge has ever asked a contestant to marry them on live TV. I don't know. I guess in general I'm just surprised at the way people react to things that I see as very normal."

When asked about the winner of the show's current season, the hitmaker added that it will probably be a female: "It’s going to be a girl."
