X Factor beauty Nicole Scherzinger's quest to look like Jennifer Lopez in her early twenties failed disastrously.

The US songstress and X Factor judge is admired for her long dark locks and exotic beauty, although Scherzinger admits she hasn't always embraced her looks.

Revealing she once took style inspiration from a fellow singer, Scherzinger quipped to Heat magazine: “I dyed my hair blonde once and it was horrible! I was in my early twenties and I was trying to look like J-Lo. It didn’t work!”

Scherzinger loves dressing up for glitzy events and has previously revealed her failsafe hair and beauty techniques.

She said: " “I love what I call a lady curl: in rollers and pinned up big and glamorous. I also like braids, as they’re so versatile. I like wearing my hair in one big one, pinned up and sweeping all the way round.

She added: " “Definitely a red lip. Chanel and Dior do brilliant red lipsticks – they’re my favourite. I’d wear it with a clean graphic eye with black liquid liner in a classic wing.”
