Noel Gallagher named best-selling vinyl artist to mark new chart launch

For the first time in UK chart history vinyl sales will have their own dedicated countdown.

The inaugural Official Vinyl Albums and Official Vinyl Singles charts launch today (April 13) with weekly lists of the best-selling records set to be revealed every Sunday at 7pm.

Creation of the new vinyl charts comes after a decade-long rise in sales of the traditional music format and 2014 reaching a 20 year high with sales figures of 1,288,510.

To mark the launch of the new charts, the Official Charts Company have revealed that Noel Gallagher is the artist behind both the biggest-selling vinyl album and single of the year so far.

Noel Gallgher’s High Flying Birds album ‘Chasing Yesterday’ beat the likes of Led Zeppelin, Arctic Monkeys and Royal Blood to the top of the poll.

The single ‘Ballad of the Mighty I’ came ahead of yet another Gallagher track, ‘The Dying of the Light’, in the singles league table.

The ex-Oasis star was also recently named Amazon’s best-selling album act of the 2015 so far.
