Noel Gallagher confused by modern music charts

Noel Gallagher has admitted that he has trouble understanding how the singles and albums charts work now because when he was in Oasis things were a lot more straightforward.

The High Flying Birds star told the NME that back in the 90s "everyone knew their place" in the UK Top 40 because shows like Top of the Pops would indicate artists' levels of success, but with the recent introduction of digital downloads and the 'on air/on sale' policy things are less clear:

"It's f**ked now. Some of us are old enough to remember Top Of The Pops and The Chart Show. If you headlined Top Of The Pops you were f**king number one and the world was alright and everyone knew their place."

"The charts are insane at the moment, the way people sell music is insane. (My new single) is out, but it's not actually out. You can buy it but you can't buy it. It's at Number 20 in the charts but it's not actually been released. I don't understand why. (Someone told me) 'We release it two weeks after its been released now'. Well, who is 'we'? And why do 'we' do that? It doesn't make any sense to me."
