Olly Murs says he modified Paul Weller's 'Never Been Better' song

Olly Murs says he initially rejected Paul Weller's contribution to his latest album.

The singer teamed up with the Modfather for the 2014 tune 'Let Me In'.

However, the X Factor host told the Telegraph that he initially wasn't happy with the track because it wasn't "commercial" enough.

Murs suggested some changes to Weller - and the veteran musician agreed to the alterations, with the finished copy going on the album 'Never Been Better'.

He said: "I rang Paul with my version, thinking he'd say no, but he loved it. That gave me a huge confidence boost."

The Brit added about public criticism of his roots: "That's people's opinion, if they don’t like me that's fine.

"The only option I had was The X Factor and that wasn't easy, I had to do three auditions against 250,000 people before I got through. Even if you do get into the show's top 12, how many people go on to have a career?

"It's not the same as going on the road with a band, but both ways are hard. At the end of the day we all want the same thing which is to have a hit record."
