Tony Dreams – Interview and Rewind Music Video @tdreamsmusic

1. Tell us about yourself and your music? I’m Tony Dreams a 22 year old songwriter / recording artist born in Waco, Texas and currently located in Sacramento, CA. I started writing and performing around the age of 12 but stopped and began focusing on football when I got to high school. Approaching graduation in 2012 I began writing and recording music again with some friends in my neighborhood. In that short time, I rediscovered my love for music and decided to pursue a career in the music industry. I was heavily influenced by artist such as, Trey Songz, Drake, Omarion, & PartyNextDoor.

2. How would you describe your sound? I would describe my sound as a new age R&B. I fuse calming vocal melodies with hip hop energy & hard hitting 808s with chill pads & live instrumentation.

3. Talk about the experience making your single? The creation of my single “Rewind” came at a pivotal time in my life. I had just relocated to Northern California from my parents’ house in the DMV. I was living in my high school sweetheart’s parents’ home while I got situated on the West Coast. Focused on making my name known I began to make my music more personal and writing songs that tell stories related to my life.

4. What are you currently working on? Any new projects? Shows? I’m currently working on a project that will be released in early 2017 & will be releasing a follow up single titled “Windows” that will be released before the end of 2016.

5.  What has been your biggest highlight in your music career this far? I think that I’m living in the biggest highlight of my music career this far. The release of Rewind the single & music video has brought my independent music career to new heights and is still growing at a massive rate. I’m excited to see what my future has ahead of me.

6. Name your ideal collaboration: mainstream or independent artist(s)? My ideal collaboration would be with Trey Songz, Bryson Tiller & Chance the Rapper!

7. Name something random that people do not know about you? Something random about me is, the story of how I got my stage name. When I was in the process of releasing my first few songs I struggled with coming up with a stage name that represented me. I met with my group of friends who helped to teach me how to record and edit my vocals and we made a list of different names we thought of. None of them felt right so that night I went to sleep and had a dream of a packed out stadium crowd chanting “Dreams! Dreams! Dreams!” Everything was pitch black I could only hear the crowd’s chants and screams. Shortly after the DJ said, “Are yall ready for Tony Dreams!?” At that moment I could see the lights, crowd, & stage & it gave me the best feeling I ever felt. The next morning, I asked my family & friends their opinion & majority of them liked it so I’ve ran with it ever since lol

8. What’s one thing you have learned or discovered while being in the indie music scene/industry? The biggest thing I’ve learned from being an independent artist in the music industry is that you have to be knowledgeable about the business side of the industry. Understanding your ownership in the music you create and how to get it to the masses. Also I have a better understanding of the importance of my fan base, as a younger artist I chased acceptance from people within the industry instead of focusing my energy on building and keeping my fan base satisfied.

9. What can we expect from you in the future? In the future I’m hoping to release a full length debut album, be able to tour internationally, song write for and alongside of mainstream artists, & continue to build my fan base and be able to connect with them on a higher level.
