Victory Interview – Change The World @made4victory

Tell us about yourself and your music? What up? I go by the name Victory by way of Cleveland, Ohio. Trying to stay focused right now and not let this Trump shit keep us down this way. That’s part of the whole made4victory brand. Speaking up and out! Challenging yourself and others.

Yeah..  some people might know me as Vic Freeze. I did some projects under that moniker but music is always evolving and so did I.  People are always asking about my catalogue. It is always available at  www.made4victory.com

Music is something I don’t even think about anymore. It just is.. I wake up in it. Live in it. Move during my time in it. Eventually, creative ideas spill out as a result of my day to day life. But music is more than just a mindset. And that's what I’m constantly chasing..is living out the music. Monetizing the music. And building a brand and legacy for your fam.

How would you describe your sound? I would describe it as #PVO.. positive vibes only…feel good music.  The content is atypical . I have made an effort to not pigeon whole myself and really take the time to explore my ideas. Right now it sounds like a lot of live instrumentation and perfecting on working in the moment…but I will probably always dream in bars, hooks and samples

Talk about the experience making your single? I kept everything Cleveland but whoa…Change The World is a huge song.

The hook is big. The content is relevant. The bars are sitting in the pocket just right.

It personally sets the bar pretty damn high for anything else I release behind it. Ready for the challenge though.

The production sessions were with a group called The Deep End. These dudes are seriously talented and banged out heavy. All live instrumentation.

Then my g.. C.Mayes who is personally of my favorite emcees came through and killed his 16 so…I thought it was extremely well done.

Fasho the icing on the cake was this kid DaLomonze who just took over the hook. I had written it but something was missing.

And the Deep End new him from before, so he made the song level up immediately. The whole thing was positive and a perfect storm.

We did the vocals at this creative space called Bulkey House and it doubled down on the whole vibe.

What are you currently working on? Any new projects? Shows?

Currently working on a couple follow up singles to Change The World and I do have an EP in my pocket.

Just trying to continue to get the buzz up off the single and film a couple more vids. Consistency is key.

I will be doing some regional shows a couple times a month after Feb. And can’t wait to check out SXSW in March. Whether it’s on the strip or off, Victory will be performing during the last weekend there fasho!

What has been your biggest highlight in your music career this far? That’s a tough one. I would say my first show. We opened up for Wu-Tang. Never had touched a mic in front of people lol.

Somebody is gonna come out the woodwork with that vid one day.  Right? The first show!

But I wouldn’t be where I am musically without being put in that spot and having that experience.

I feel like musically a lot of people realize they are not recreating the wheel but it’s a wheel made from a different point in time.

Hip-hop is so dope if you use it right, what you are doing can be timeless.

How many opportunities do you get in life to do things like that?

Performing makes me feel like that. This how my vibe was created. Inspiration. Soaking up positive energy from my surroundings. Opportunity.. Having a space to try to do something dope and doing it.

Name your ideal collaboration: mainstream or independent artist(s)? Right now, because of living in Cleveland and the lane I’m in... I run into a lot of independent artists. That’s not going to stop me from collaborating with someone who isn't if they reach out. At the end of the day.. I want to make something dope. So that is where I put my energy. Like let’s make it happen.

Name something random that people do not know about you? That my daughter Jasmin has special needs. She is 10. My inspiration and my heart. My production company…is named after her (A Terrific Production) I should say she has special abilities because her energy is crazy! People are naturally attracted to her. I just watch. For real, I was sensitive about it for a long time. Like I would go to war over it. But, I realized people are just interested because she’s part of me. As an artist, people want to connect with your music and see what makes you tick. As soon as I opened up more about her situation, I started to grow as a person and the music did too.

What’s one thing you have learned or discovered while being in the indie music scene/industry? I will say 2 things….one is get your paperwork together. You are your own brand. Treat it as such.

Two is…it’s amazing how many talented individuals I have met will never get to do an interview like this.

What can we expect from you in the future? Visibility. Lit content. Touring. Great merch from the made4victory brand. Consistency. Creating a platform for kids w/ abilities. And stretching myself as a person. Because the next hip-hop renaissance is now . Check for me at www.made4victory.com
