Kenyon Dixon Interview:
Tell us about yourself and your music?

I think the beauty in that is that myself and my music are synonymous. I’m all vibe.. I like to go with the flow of things and I think that describes my music as well. I create my own music so you’re genuinely getting me. It’s true to who I am. Consistent and grounded… but a vibe most def

How would you describe your sound?

I always say it’s less of a sound and more of a feeling. I’ll probably say vibe a million times but it’s true lol that’s really all it is. Much like classic records, that’s what makes them classic; the feeling you get every time you listen. I’d like to believe those are the kinds of records I make

Talk about the experience making your single?

‘Tell Me’ was a wave at the time. I had heard so many records in that vein (my favorite one being the Tory Lanez ‘Luv’ joint) but I genuinely liked the sound and wanted to find a way to create my own record with those vibes but something still fresh and true to MY sound. I sat down, pulled up LOGIC and got to work. I had been sitting with the sample idea (Groove Theory x Tell Me) for a while and so I finally pulled it out and that’s what I ended up with! One of my favorite records on the project, still.

What are you currently working on? Any new projects? Shows?

Well I just most recently released my 7th project ‘We Should Talk’ which everybody is vibing to right now.. so that’s love! I usually try and take at least a couple months after a release to just regroup and be normal for a second lol because after working on an entire project, you usually don’t even want to hear your own voice for a second, you know? Lol I’ll be getting back to work soon though on another installment of my last release and I’m actually hype about that.

What has been your biggest highlight in your music career this far?

Having written on 2 Grammy nominated albums is pretty cool. The first was my very first placement so that definitely still trips me out. I also had the chance to work with Kanye, cutting some vocals on the ‘Ultra light Beam’ record. That’s probably one of my personal favorite highlights. A lot of moments.. but those 2 I think were really dope to have experienced.

Name your ideal collaboration: mainstream or independent artist(s)?

I like that you asked Mainstream or independent because theres definitely some amazing indie artists out there. Ideal, I’ll always have to go with Drake. It just makes sense Lol

Name something random that people do not know about you?

I actually had no interest in singing. Never really wanted to be an artist. Prior to seriously pursuing a career as a music artist, I danced professionally and did musical theater. This was forsure always where I was supposed to be but I definitely tried to go elsewhere Lol

What’s one thing you have learned or discovered while being in the indie music scene/industry?

Get it done yourself. While it’s essential to have a team, creatively, you have every tool you need available for you to never have to wait on anyone else to bring your own vision to life. Work and let people meet you in the process.. Never wait for someone to start it for you!

What can we expect from you in the future?

More music. Always. GOOD music! Maybe even some collabs but we’ll see.
