Farrah Mechael’s Interview and Farrah Please EP

Farrah Mechael’s journey is a magical one. Rising out of Detroit, at a young age she was captivated by the fantasy and whimsy of music. While most aspiring singers have a notable contemporary artist they looked to for inspiration, Farrah looked to a song from the 1959 animated feature film Sleeping Beauty called “Once Upon a Dream,” an operatic display of Disney enchantment. This lead to her singing jazz and opera in her teen years, ultimately Farrah found her voice in pop music, combining the melodic romance of her fairy-tale days with an edgy emo backing track. Some of the artist that inspire Farrah are Lady Gaga and Amy Winehouse. Farrah’s debut EP entitled “Farrah Please”, is a perfect mix of both uptempo Pop rhythms, downtempo emo vibes, with a dash of of tropical and EDM tones. Flying from her lips and crashing into your eardrums, “Farrah Please” was released to all streaming platforms December 21st 2017. Check out the interview below!

Tell us about yourself and your music?

I’ve been singing since before I could speak and I was blessed enough to have family who recognized my gift. My music is unique and I like to add different elements of myself in it, such as my ethnic background. Music is truly healing and I hope with my voice and songs I will bring a sense of peace/hope to the world.

How would you describe your sound?

I definitely created my own type of sound based on who I am. My music is dark and fast-paced with different ethnic flares. My songs have feelin  so that when people are listening they can heal, grow, feel good, and connect. My voice also adds a distinct sound to my music, so no matter the type of song, it still sounds like “Farrah.”

Talk about the experience making your single?

My single “La La Land” is for people who feel as if they’re living in their own world. We were in the studio one day and my sister Tamara came up with the lyrics for the chorus, but the producer didn’t like it for that song. We met with another producer, used Tamara’s lines, and built the song around them. The music video for this song is currently in the works! It is based on a popular film from the 90s. I can’t wait for it to be released!!

What are you currently working on? Any new projects? Shows?

Currently,  I’ve been nonstop rehearsing for the Digitour and making music in the studio for my next project. Besides that, we’ve been filming music videos and getting a bunch of dope content. I actually have a show next Wednesday, March 14th at the Roxy in Los Angeles! That is the first show of sixteen shows all across the states. I’m so excited for the world to see what we’ve been working on!

What has been your biggest highlight in your music career thus far?

I’ve been pursuing my music career for about 6 years now, and the most exciting this was finding out I’m going on tour. It was just so humbling and I felt beyond blessed that after all these years I finally get to share my music with people on stage. Make sure to get your tickets for Digitour in a city close to you!

Name your ideal collaboration: mainstream or independent artist(s)?

I would love love love to collaborate with Marilyn Manson one day. I think combining our vibes would be so dope & we would come out with a legendary record.

Name something random that people do not know about you?

I’ve never been a big seafood person. I like salmon and some types of sushi, but besides that, I’ve never really liked fish.

What’s one thing you have learned or discovered while being in the indie music scene/industry?

One thing I learned is to never be surprised. Don’t expect the worst, but let your mind be prepared for it. Being in the indie music industry, you will definitely have your share of ups & downs but it is most important to make sure you don’t think any negative thoughts. People will come and go, you have what it takes in you yourself!

What can we expect from you in the future?

I‘m going on tour so there will be a lot of content released from the performances. The music videos we shot for the songs from my EP “Farrah Please” are all going to drop over the next few months. Season two of my family’s reality show “Knot Normal” will be dropping soon! You can currently watch Season 1 of “Knot Normal” on YouTube. I’m also always working on new records so you can expect many new projects in the days to come! Keep up with my social media to get updates on my music and shows!! Thank you <3
