'RWD - The Legacy' out Monday, May 21st

RWD Magazine and Sony Music release ‘RWD – The Legacy’ on May 21st

Full Track Listing below.

Serving as the first ever comprehensive and concise musical timeline of the UK-underground-to-mainstream scene, ‘RWD – The Legacy’ charts the UK’s urban music scene as a 3 CD compilation, from the early days of UK Garage through to Grime, UK Rap, Dubstep and Urban Pop hits.

RWD Magazine is the largest urban music and lifestyle magazine, with a 100k distribution and has been an integral part of an increased awareness in British, urban music; reflected in this album’s tracklisting – led by the biggest hits of the UK garage, grime and dubstep scene, from its origins right up to today’s saturation of the market – both underground and commercial.

The compilation itself emphasises the huge success of all these genres, in their own niche and in mainstream charts, with 4 no.1 singles, 21 top 40 hits and 9 top 10s. CD1  is concerned with exhibiting the stars of the scene – CD1 is strictly the stars of the scene; from Tinie and Lab’s Pass Out, to Lethal B’s Pow [Forward] and Dizzee’s genre-defining Fix Up, Look Sharp through to Tinchy’s mega-star remix of Game Over. We also called upon Lewi White’s all-star smash, Young Guns Ft. Ed Sheeran, Yasmin, Devlin and Griminal. Whether it’s dubstep brilliance from Katy B’s On A Mission or to the first of grime posterboys to go fully pop (Chipmunk’s Chip Diddy Chip), this CD illustrates the big hits that are prevalent in our charts these days.

If CD1 is where we’re at right now, then CD2 is all about where we’re from. Before Grime, there was UK Garage; Wiley’s Pay As You Go Cartel with their Champagne Dance and DJ Luck and MC Neat’s Little Bit Of Luck It. So Solid Crew’s 21 Seconds was, and remains, one of the most important singles in UK music and following in their footsteps, came Artful Dodger and Criag David’s Re-Rewind, one of the key hits that retained underground credibility while appealing to a commercial sensibility.

CD3 is straight-up ‘go hard or go home’ fare. Wiley’s Take That and JME’S Serious through to another reload-classic, Jammer’s amazing Murkle Man. Finally, there’s a triple whammy of Kano’s P’s & Q’s, Scorcher’s Dark Knight and Sway’s Up Your Speed. This is the CD that really reminds us how the scene has manifested itself and taken control of the digital platform; from raves and pirate radio, through to mixtapes and MySpace, now we see the likes of PW, C4, Maxsta and Benny Banks utilising the likes of YouTube, Twitter and Soundcloud. With the emergence of blogs, Grime, Dubstep and UK Rap has been able to reach much of the world at the touch of a button.

RWD Magazine have always been, and certainly remain to be, the undisputed champions and purveyors of the scene – fostering and maintaining supportive friendships and relationships with these artists, resulting in a highly influential collaborative impact on the current landscape – a shared history, present and future.

A Legacy.
