Ozzy Osbourne jokes that he recorded new Black Sabbath album to fund shopping habit

Ozzy Osbourne has quipped that he made Black Sabbath's latest record because he needed the money.

The heavy metal godfathers released new album '13' earlier this month - their first record with singer Osbourne since 1978's 'Never Say Die!".

It hit No.1 in a number of countries worldwide, including the UK and the US.

Speaking to NME, Osbourne said that an 'addiction to shopping' and bandmate Tony Iommi's health encouraged the group to work harder on finishing off the album.

When asked if Iommi's 2012 cancer diagnosis gave the Birmingham group the impetus to make the album, Ozzy said:

"That and the fact I'm a f***ing terminal shopper. I need the f***ing money."

Referring the Black Sabbath guitarist's cancer scare, the singer added: "'It did make us think we can't hang around anymore. At our ages, any of us could get sick. At any stage in fact. The chemotherapy he's got to have, it's not something you can party with."
