Pixie Lott blames social networking for loss of "glamour and mystique"

Pixie Lott has blamed social networking for the loss of "glamour and mystique" that used to surround celebrities and musicians.

The 'All About Tonight' hitmaker explained to Britain's Live magazine that sites such as Twitter and Facebook mean that fans are often exposed to the reality of their idols and it dispells a certain allure that was present in the days of "Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn".

"Maybe we should get rid of social networking. We don't have proper stars any more and things like Twitter are partly to blame. I long for the old days of Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn, stars who had real glamour and mystique."

"We only knew so much about their lives, the rest was a mystery. They'd often come out with these wonderful quotes - you wouldn't be reading their Twitter updates every two minutes. They never looked ordinary - and they would never be photographed jogging in the park."

She did, however, admit that the power of social networking can be a positive thing and it helps to bridge the gap between celebrity and ordinary life so it's almost a necessary evil:

"That's how stars should be. Having said that, my fans would be really upset if I stopped tweeting. So I guess a loss of mystique is the price I've had to pay."
