Rhett Repko unleashes new indie rock anthem ‘Somewhat Famous’OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASENEWS PROVIDED BY Plus Music PR Returning from a busy 2024, Rhett Repko is back for the new year, championing his thrilling blend of indie-pop and at-rock. Exploring romantic warnings through a sonic lens, ‘Somewhat Famous’ carries on the themes presented in Rhett’s previous single, ‘How Cold’, as he looks to further cement himself as a rising young talent. Bringing groove-laden toplines to the forefront of the airwaves, ‘Somewhat Famous’ leans into an authentic indie-rock persona. Merging the fun-filled dynamics of pop music, with the illusive authenticity of the contemporary scene, Repko’s latest offering offers a punchy bite in the same hand as a nostalgic roar. The track is the product of a two-day-long session at Red Bull Studios in Santa Monica, offering the creative license to experiment with technologies of both yesterday and tomorrow. Speaking about the single, he dives into the influences behind the release, “I wanted a swampy kind of old-school blues sound - something that I imagine gangsters in the 1920s would listen to in a speakeasy bar - the kinda song that makes you feel cool as you listen to it. We recorded the song at Red Bull Studios in Santa Monica over two full days so we tried to use everything we could get our hands on. I got the legendary producer Mark Needham (Killers, Imagine Dragons) to do the final mix of the song and bring all of those elements to life and the edge of the speaker. He always has a way of taking something that I think is already perfect and making it even better.” Whilst adding about the gear, “It was such a treat being able to use their world-class studio. We ran through some great Neve preamps and 1176 compressors before trying out the Neumann U67, I've always wanted to try it out but never had a chance as it’s a recreation of a famous vintage mic, and it sounded incredible. For the synths and keyboards, there was quite a wide selection too, though we ended up using a Juno 106 and Prophet 6 and their real Fender Rhodes. All in all, it was such a treat to record the song there and I'm glad the song is now available for everyone to hear.” AboutRepko’s punked-up approach to music-making has earned him no less than five Top 100 college radio hits and support from over 200 radio stations across America, highlighted by a #1 Single on the NACC Chart and two Top 100 BDS Triple A Chart positions. The ‘Independent Troubadour’s tracks have been featured on several television shows, landing spots with MTV, Netflix and TLC amongst several others. Since becoming obsessed with music as a teenager, Repko became entranced in a world of The Beatles and Nirvana - never shying away from growing his musical knowledge. After achieving a Degree in Music, he formed his first band and toured across the United States. Since starting his solo career, he’s worked with several creatives at the top of their game including 18-time Grammy winning James Sanger (Madonna, U2) and fellow Grammy winning engineer Chris Gehringer.
