Professor Green quits Twitter for lent

'Monster' hitmaker Professor Green has decided to give up something for lent and picked his social networking outlet, Twitter.

Writing on the site this morning (February 13), the star explained that for the next 40 days and 40 nights he will give up using it to share snippets of his days and to chat with his fans:

"lent begins today? what a sick excuse to give up twitter. laters."

Green is an active user of Twitter and often weighs in on current affairs as well as talking about music and interacting with his 1.6 million followers. Most recently, he shared his thoughts on the collapse of high street music retailer HMV, writing:

"HMV bankrupt. we may as well just give up on any medium that involves hard copy and get on with it. #sadtimes. as a kid saving up to buy a tape, record or cd was one of the best things about music, the anticipation. then playing it non stop. Everything has to be so instant nowadays, it'll be the death of creativity, everything is churned out so quickly."
