Professor Green: 'It's unfair to say Glastonbury doesn't support rap music'

Controversy hit Glastonbury Festival this summer after grime artist Wiley publicly bowed out of his performance, but rapper Professor Green has now spoken out in defense of the live music event.

Speaking to Gigwise, the 'Just Be Good To Green' star explained that it supports a diverse range of genres and does well in exposing people from all backgrounds to different types of music, which is important:

"There were a lot of people in that crowd that haven't heard my music or have heard it and choose not to listen to it, but I got a wicked response on Twitter from a whole heap of people who openly said 'I wasn't a fan but now I'm converted'. There's no better tweet than that. It means that you're doing your job properly and that I'm a half-decent performer!"

Green added that there is a lot of support for urban genres at the festival, which is widely thought of as being more indie based, and said that all the performers were so well received:

"I've performed there three years in a row - as have a lot of my peers. I don't think it's fair to say that Glastonbury doesn't support rap music. Jay-Z seemed to do alright, they definitely supported him. There was a lot of noise about him headlining but when it came down to it, everybody turned up and he absolutely killed it."
