Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Sega Bodega today release ‘Hypnotized (Sega Bodega Version)’, an alternate version of Sophie’s latest single born out of sessions between the acclaimed artist-producer and Glasgow producer Wuh Oh. Released on Cooking Vinyl, the unexpected club-ready collaboration follows Sega Bodega’s lauded second album ‘Romeo’ and Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s welcome return to the pop limelight spearheaded by her wildly successful lockdown kitchen discos.

“Me and Pete (Wuh Oh) go back years and have been trying to work together so to collab alongside Sophie Ellis-Bextor also is an honour” says Sega, real name Salvador Navarrete.

“I’m excited about the release of the Sega Bodega version. It shows where the song originated and why I was so captivated by it - such a great chapter in this wonderful wonky pop song's journey!” - Sophie Ellis-Bextor

“I wrote ‘Hypnotized’ way back in 2019” explains Wuh Oh; When Sophie lent her unmistakable voice to the song a couple years later, I wanted the production to be tailored to match her unique energy and knew my long time friend Sega Bodega could help me get it right. Though the track went through a bunch of different iterations, this version is most true to Sega’s vision for ‘Hypnotized’. I feel so excited and honoured to have brought Sophie and Sega’s worlds together. It’s a win for pop music.”

Hypnotized sees Sophie return to her original dance roots, but in her true alternate style with the avant-pop track, which features an experimental off-kilter melody backed by immediate lyrics and looks set to be a summer anthem.

Sophie has been performing at UK festivals over the summer with many live dates still to come. She has also been announced as part of the line-up for Radio 2 Live, which takes place in Leeds on 17th September.

Sega Bodega’s 2021 album Romeo showcases his otherworldly production style that has made him such a pioneer within alternative and electronica spaces. Romeo includes features from lauded peers Arca and Charlotte Gainsbourg and the singles "I Need Nothing From You," "Angel On My Shoulder," and "Only Seeing God When I Come." Sega Bodega has been a crucial creative hand in countless projects including - the A&R and development of artists under his NUXXE label, acclaimed production for artists including Oklou, Shygirl and Zebra Katz, and his evermore groundbreaking solo work. As part of the NUXXE collective he co-founded, Bodega was featured in Dazed 100, a list of the most influential artists operating in art and media today. A keen soundtracker, Bodega scored Nike’s 2018 Jumpman advert, contributed music to Rihanna’s Puma x Fenty show at New York Fashion Week, and provided sound design for Brooke Candy and PornHub’s landmark I Love You, the first adult film to feature full-length gay, lesbian and trans scenes all under one title.
