Today - 5th August - multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter Munah releases her enveloping new single, ‘Calling’, released via her own label eldest daughter, in partnership with Alacran Records & AWAL.

For Munah - who traverses multiple artforms including music, acting, and playwriting - her debut single is a testimony to her refined creative process. Working with the esteemed Charlie Andrew (London Grammar/Alt-J/Wolf Alice/Marika Hackman) and Neil Comber (M.I.A/Charlie XCX/Florence/Glass Animals/Declan McKenna), Munah has already received co-signs from some of Alt Pop’s best purveyors. With “Calling”, Munah creates a deeply intricate piece of mature and contemporary pop that highlights her stunning vocals and songwriting.

The Lancashire born, London based artist can trace her origins back to Ireland & Pakistan, both of which influenced her music deeply with her songs incorporating both aspects of her heritage, often featuring instruments and harmonies from traditional Eastern music.

Within the track, Munah delves into the concept of connections and relationships, exploring how they enable us to find ourselves when we feel most lost and provide restoration when we need it most.

Speaking about ‘Calling’, Munah said: “For me, ‘Calling’ is about remembering the connections we have, wherever they may be, and channelling them when we need them the most; when life feels too difficult, or when we don’t feel strong. It is about feeling lost, and feeling found all at the same time.”

The release of ‘Calling’ coincides with the debut performances of Munah’s self-written, one-woman Edinburgh Fringe Festival show, ‘Manic Street Creature’. The play is centred around “compassion exhaustion” and manic depression and will feature Munah’s brand-new music within the performance. ‘Manic Street Creature’ is set to run for the full three weeks of Edinburgh Fringe Festival at ROUNDABOUT at Summerhall. The venue has been programmed across the Fringe by the globally renowned Paines Plough, and ‘Manic Street Creature’ has been supported during the development by the National Theatre.
