Choice FM's 'Music Potential' launches in London

Island Records RnB artist Angel announced as Ambassador

Rising R&B star Angel is announced as the ambassador for Choice FM & Barclaycard’s Music Potential; a venture designed to give young people the unique opportunity to unleash their potential and learn more about the music industry from professionals across the spectrum.

This year Music Potential has taken Choice FM’s longstanding community action work to the next level as it aims to engage with over 500 young people at taster events and festivals in London and Birmingham throughout September 2012. Music Potential will offer free workshops and training in DJ’ing, MC’ing, radio production, music production, song-writing, and media for young people who aren't in work or studying.

"Through Music Potential, Choice FMcontinues to provide unique and innovative opportunities for young aspiring music professionals.” Dalton Leong, Managing Director, Global Radio Charities and Communities.

As the new face of the programme, Island Records signee Angel takes the baton from Wretch 32 who supported Music Potential throughout 2011/12, he'll be working alongside Choice DJ ambassadors KC & Abrantee.

Helping Choice & Barclaycard to bring the Music Potential programme to life are Dv8 Training, Industry In The Streets (London) and Punch Records (Birmingham), alongside an elected band of young creative minds; The Collective, a media team of young ambassadors and mentors aiming to explore new ways to capture and share multi-media content around the programme.

"There is a real opportunity to help tackle this issue using music related education to engage young people, particularly those who are not in employment education or training.” Louise Guedes, Community Investment manager at Barclays

In Birmingham on 29 August, Punch Records kicked off the MP events calendar hosting a one-day creative & digital boot-camp based at Birmingham Ormistan Trust, (Brit School,Birmingham) with some of the UK's hottest emerging creative talent including actor Ashley Walters, Akala, Sasha Brooks, Choice FM's KC, and Roxxxan.

Housed in some of the most advanced music and multimedia facilities in London, DV8 Training will facilitate five taster sessions – the first launching on 4 September, catering to different areas of London. They will be joined by a variety of guests including Universal A&R Ben Scarr, Levels Entertainment's Zeon Richards and Island Records Marketing Manager Natasha Mann, and SBTV's Jamal Edwards.

“The project will give young people across London a chance to show what they can do.” Alexis Michaelides, MD, Dv8 Training

In order to further develop the skills of those who take part in the taster dates, Music Potential X will run throughout the Autumn, offering 100 places consisting of work experience, accredited courses and one-on-one mentoring schemes.

Music Potential will culminate in a major youth festival at Wembley in January 2013, bringing together all of the participants across London and Birmingham, led by The Collective. Alongside performances from some of the most celebrating musicians in the UK, the event will showcase the MPX graduates new skill-sets and aim to recruit the next wave of young talent for 2013/14.
