Robbie Williams “gutted” over Radio 1 snub

Singer Robbie Williams has been left “gutted” after learning that Radio 1 have taken his music off of their playlist.

Radio 1 breakfast DJ Nick Grimshaw told Five News recently that Williams is simply not Radio 1 material anymore. "I liked Take That when I was little, but I'm not little anymore," he said. "I don't know if he's now for a Radio 1 audience."

The show didn’t play Williams’ single ‘Candy’ last year, but did broadcast his recent collaboration with Dizzee Rascal.

"I'm very ambitious," said Robbie Williams to BBC Radio 4's Mastertapes programme. "So when Radio 1 goes and is taken away from you, a huge bit of your arsenal goes."

"It's your main oxygen to get your stuff out there."

But this isn’t the BBC targeting just Williams as being not relevant to the show. The station’s head has also said that Green Day and Muse are in danger of being dropped as well.

"The last Green Day project simply wasn't good enough," said George Ergatoudis.

He added that Muse "are approaching a crossroads" - their last single was the first one left off the Radio 1 playlist in a decade.

"The door remains open to them but we'll have to think carefully about their next album."
