Round Hill Music has announced the acquisition of the back catalog of multi-platinum, Atlanta, Georgia based band Collective Soul and a futures agreement with bands founder, lead vocalist and primary songwriter Ed Roland.

Ed Roland started his professional life in the music industry as a sound engineer and producer and after appearing in several bands during the late 1908s and early 1990s released his debut album Ed-E Roland independently in 1991. Roland changed the name of his band to Collective Soul and put out their first album Hints, Allegations & Things Left Unsaid in 1993, which was subsequently picked up by Atlantic Records and re-released worldwide in 1994, enjoying widespread critical and commercial success.

The band’s debut single “Shine” became the band's most well-known song and a hallmark of 1990s alternative rock. It became the number one Album Rock Song of 1994 and won a Billboard award for Top Rock Track. The song also reached the top of the Billboard Album Rock Tracks chart for eight weeks and VH1 would later include "Shine" on their list of the "100 Greatest Songs of the '90s".

Collective Soul’s second album was released in 1995 and spent 76 weeks on the Billboard 200 charts going triple-platinum and becoming the band's highest-selling album. The singles “December”, “The World I Know” and “Where The Rover Flows” each reached number one on the Mainstream Rock charts.

In 1997 Collective Soul released their Disciplined Breakdown album, which contained two number one Mainstream Rock chart hits with “Precious Declaration” and “Listen”. The band released a fourth studio album, Dosage, in 1999, with the first single “Heavy” spending a then record-breaking 15 weeks on the top spot of the Mainstream Rock charts.

To date the band have released ten studio albums, the most recent being 2019’s Blood of which Ed Roland said, “I think Blood is the beginning of a lot of good music to come. We’re doing the best that we can do. Blood is an accumulation of all the different styles we’ve used over the years — but it’s still Collective Soul. I think it’s the best we’ve ever done.”

Ed Roland is also the founder, frontman and primary songwriter of the Sweet Tea Project, who have released two albums , the most recent of which is Alder Lane Farm in 2017.

Josh Gruss , CEO of Round Hill said, “Collective Soul are staples of American radio. I dare someone to travel the U.S. for a week with ears perked up, and NOT hear one of their songs. I am very happy to have gotten to know Ed personally over the last year.

Ed Roland said, ““I’m very excited to be working with Round Hill and for all this partnership will bring. After getting to know Josh Gruss and the Round Hill team, I know that my life’s work - both past and future - is in great hands. I’m looking forward to what we will accomplish together.”
