NINA SCHOFIELD RELEASES THE ANTHEM FOR WORLD VOICE DAY

The Nina Schofield Press Party Interview

One of the UK’s freshest singer/songwriters, Nina Schofield, talks to Press Party about her forthcoming single, ‘Restart’, out on Friday 15 April, which also happens to be the anthem for World Voice Day this year.

  1. 1.    There’s quite a bit of Nina Schofield music bubbling on the internet from previous releases, is 2016 the year for Nina?

I’ve been working really hard to record as much new material as I can which is why I prepared my new album for release this year – in the meantime I’ve been lucky enough to release new singles alongside featured vocal releases with some incredible artists. It’s all come together really well timing wise so I’m hoping 2016 keeps the momentum building as it’s a really exciting time!

  1. 2.    How would you describe the Nina Schofield sound?

It’s melodic, uplifting pop music that delves into emotive subjects I hope people can relate to. My style has definitely changed over time and my producers and I have made sure we experiment with new sounds on each song so they all have something unique to them!

  1. 3.    Your biog says that you teach music too – tell us more about that.

I coach vocals and piano which is a passion of mine – it’s amazing to see younger musicians develop and find their own sound – I think it’s really important to encourage creativity in children and I feel so lucky to be able to do that with some amazing kids!

  1. 4.    You have an album set for release this year, what can we expect from that?

This album is probably the most exciting thing I’ve ever worked on. I started writing and recording it this time last year and it’s really personal to me. It tells the story of some important relationships in my life including my relationship with myself and is the most musically experimental I’ve ever been whilst still remaining pop. I’ve already released one single from the album “Come Down” and there are two more on the way including “Restart” which is out on April 15th ! I can’t wait for everyone to hear it.

  1. 5.    You’ve had a hit earlier this year with Vintage and Morelli, what’s the story behind that?

I started working with the record label Silk Music a few years ago and when they approached me to collaborate with Vintage and Morelli on his debut album I jumped at the chance. We got on really well and started working together over Skype on two songs – Prophecy and We Are Future. We had a great musical chemistry and the tracks came together really quickly. I think we both got excited when We Are Future came about because it just felt like it had a really cool vibe. I’m so pleased for Vintage and Morelli - I think everyone involved with the record has been overwhelmed with its success!

  1. 6.    ‘Restart’ is the anthem of World Voice Day (which is pretty impressive), how did that come about?

Restart is probably one of my most anthemic songs and I think the organisers of World Voice Day picked up on that and also how involved I am with championing the voice as an instrument.  We joined forces as it seemed like a match made in heaven – I’m so pleased to be part of something so important and hope that Restart encourages people to sing along or even use their voice to create something new themselves!

  1. 7.    You’re going to be hosting a Pop Shop on World Voice Day, what will happen there?

It’s going to be such a fun few hours! We’ll be working on a really special version of Restart at Yamaha Music London and filming it for youtube. As well as this I’ll be teaching everyone some important vocal exercises, speaking to them about the music industry and answering any questions they may have. We’ll be surrounded by music and making something truly special together to celebrate the day!

  1. 8.    You have enviable brand links with Yamaha, what have you done with them in the past?

I’m really lucky to have filmed and recorded a Female First live performance at Yamaha Music London’s Soho Sessions in Wardour Street – they’ve been so supportive and I can’t wait to work with them again on World Voice Day with my pop shop! I’m looking forward to continuing our working relationship throughout 2016 and beyond.

  1. 9.     What about Nina live, is there a tour planned for this year?

Touring plans are definitely under way and I’m super excited to be kicking off my live shows of this year supporting Sons of Pitches, Gareth Malone’s BBC winning choir, on their tour during April and May. I’ll be playing festivals this summer, having a big album launch and touring throughout the UK! You can stay up to date with my touring plans on my website www.ninaschofield.com

10. You toured with the likes of Nell Bryden last year, what was that like?

It was such an incredible experience. Not only was it a really fun tour but I got to meet some amazing musicians like Leland Sklar and it was really inspirational to work along side a tight knit team. We travelled up and down the UK which can be quite tiring but getting out on stage made it all worthwhile and it gave me a real taste of touring life. Nell is an amazing performer and Judith Owen put on an incredible show every night too.

11. If all your dreams came true, where will Nina Schofield be this time next year?

I’ll be touring the world and travelling to countries I’ve never been before hopefully performing to massive crowds! That’s my absolute dream. I’d also be collaborating with some of my musical inspirations like Imogen Heap and creating my next album whilst I’m out on the road. Bring it on!
