2017 saw the epically dramatic LA based band, The Longing, inject their unique blend of turbulent progressive synth into the mainstream, as they dominated the world stage with their anthem for International Women’s Day. Now, for 2018, The Longing return with another heart-wrenching slice of angst in the form of their new single ‘What If’ released on 18 May; taken from their forthcoming ‘Tales of Torment Deluxe’, which is out 20 July.

Using her musical sword to slash open her bleeding heart, Laura Bradley pours out a biographical tale of wretched woes with ‘What If’. Exposing that moment in everyone’s life when they plunge into the abyss of betrayal, pushed callously by a person they trusted implicitly. When words or actions are futile, sometimes locking that hurt inside, like a Pandora’s Box, is the only solution. But unlock that box at your peril, the pain and anger that you’ll encounter will be catastrophic. However, as The Longing turn that lock with a music key, you find yourself swept away on a tide of tempting torment; a bitter-sweet paradox of divine prog/synth mastery, delivering its tumultuous cargo of cutting duplicity. As always, the crystalline vocals of Bradley, weave their way through thrilling instrumentals to deliver this tale of bitter betrayal.

Founded by LA based musician/singer/composer, Laura Bradley, The Longing are a 5-piece band who transcend over-simplistic genre categorisation, as they hover gloriously over the void between raw progressive metal and rock. Bradley has the ability to harness the power of her trademark angelic vocals, unleashing her voice with the spectral force of an emotional whiplash – that’s what instantly brings audiences to a standstill. Fuse this with Bradley’s impeccable poetic lyrics and compositional style, which injects a jagged, rhythm-driven musical perspective, and you begin to experience the energy igniting the ever-snowballing fanbase of The Longing. The band consists of guitarists John Huldt andMashadi Maximus, bassist Michael Wallace and drummer, Tom Plumb – all formally trained, seasoned session and touring musicians with numerous high-profile production and engineering credits.

With previous singles scooping countless radio airplay in the UK and 18 countries worldwide, plus UK Record of the Week, as well as numerous TV and movie slots including MTV, The Cannes Film Festival, a score for William Shakespeare’s The Tempest and a track from their current album chosen as the anthem for International Women’s Day 2017; The Longing’s vibrant talent transcends beyond prog/rock, tempting its haunting way into the mainstream.

Now, for 2018, The Longing slash open the wounds of anger and expose them in prog/synth mastery – enjoy!

The single, ‘What If’ is released on Filthy Princess Records on 18 May
